Live Events

Every now and then Carnivore Games will host a live event online where you get to play the Strange World Storytelling Game with the author via chat. This gives you a way to test-drive the game and see if it's right for you.

In each event, you get to take the role of a member of the Boston Chapter of the Foundation for Paranormal Investigation and investigate one of their most exciting cases!

The event will take place at the following IRC channel:

Java Chat (no downloads needed): http://www.otherworlders.org/chat/fudge.html

NOTE: Once you're in the Fudge chat, type /join #StrangeWorld and you'll be transported to the real game!

IRC (needs IRC client software): irc://irc.otherworlders.org/FUDGE

Subject: My daughter is being haunted

Hello,
My name is Doug Carpenter. We have been having some trouble in our house that we believe you might be able to help us with. For the past two months, we have been hearing strange noises in the house at night. These noises have been mostly the sound of footsteps, but occasionally we would hear a whispered voice. At first we thought that it was harmless, although it was strange. But now we’re at our wits’ end.

The “haunting” has gotten worse and it has been affecting our daughter. She has always been a sweet and honest girl who rarely got into trouble. But lately, she has been wandering the halls at night and doing mischief. Every time we confront her, she blames it on her imaginary friend. Finally, just last night, she pushed me down the stairs. I was not badly hurt, but I remember vividly the sight of a my little staring down the stairs at me with such a look of hate and anger that I swear it did not look like her!

I suspect that Susie might be possessed by a demon or something. My wife thinks that it would be traumatic for Susie to subject her to an exorcism if it turns out to be something else, and I agree. So, I am asking if your team will come to our house and try to find out if this is a demon, or if it is something else.

Please let me know as soon as you can. We are at our wits’ end here, and we need to do something quickly.

Yours Sincerely,

Doug Carpenter

Rules for IRC Play

This game will run just like a regular table-top gaming session. However, since this is done through chat, there are some guidelines and rules that I'm putting in place:

Lurkers: Anyone can watch the game. In fact, I encourage everyone who's not playing to come watch! Only those who are participating in the game will be able to chat. Everyone else will have read-only access to the channel.

Nicknames: All players will change their nicknames to match their character names. This will make it easier to deal with.

Dialog: Enclose all quotes from your character in quotes: "Did you hear that?"

Dice Rolls: I recommend using the automated dice roller: roll 4df

Action: When describing what your character does, enclose it in asterisks: * I jump out the window onto the porch roof *

Breaks: If you need to step away from your computer for a few minutes, please say BRB or something similar to let us know, or the game may continue on without you.

NOTE: More rules and guidelines will appear here tomorrow! Please be patient.

The Foundation for Paranormal Investigation

The FPI is not a real paranormal society. It is a fiction one used in the setting of the Strange World Storytelling Game. In this game, you can play realistic paranormal investigators as you hunt for evidence of ghosts, Bigfoot, UFOs and occult phenomena.

This live event gives you a chance to try out the game for free.
